The best gift I got at my shower was from a sister of a good friend. She got me a hard bound copy of the Joy of Cooking. I've been married 14 years and I use this book all the time. I do recommend the hard bound copy because this is a book that should last a lifetime (or at least as long as the marriage).

never get anything that goes in the kitchen or bathroom for the bridal shower gift. those are wedding gifts. sexy or raunchy gifts are for the bachelorette party. it is a great idea to check her registry, but if you wanted something more personal, you can go with something like:

jewelry (his/her watches, earrings, necklace)
nice picture frame
nice photo album
gift cards (hair/nail salon, restaurants, book stores, victoria secret, target, or whatever her favorite store is)
nice purse/wallet set
her favorite romantic cd
undergarments for her wedding dress (garter, thigh highs, dress shields, slip) maybe? ....i dont know! lol!!!

those are just a few ideas off the top of my head. you could stick to her like glue for the next couple of days and really listen to her. she'll eventually blurt out what she needs or wants before the wedding. ....trust me!

I think the shower is not for risque type gifts anyway...that's the bachelorette party.

The first thing I would suggest is looking at her registry if she is registered. From that I would pick something that she might not buy herself, something a little frivolous. Perhaps a nice serving tray or set of stemware. You don't have to get the entire matching set, just what you can afford. I was happy to get things that were for me AND my husband...after all that's what it's all about, right?

You could also go with the typical bath products and candle (yawn)... perhaps a gift cert for a pedicure, facial, or massage is a better option.

To be honest, I don't really like the personalized gifts (like with names/initials/wedding date on them). People out grow them or have different tastes and if that's the case, they are stuck with keeping the item or tossing it because it has their name on it. I wouldn't go that route. Plus, I'm not impressed with the quality at most of those stores.

Pick something from the registery!! When she registered she basically made a list of the things that she needs and wants.

Some of my favorite gifts - a big, potted split-leaf philodendron plant; real Tupperware; a cake plate on a pedestal; kitchen towel set with oven mitts; bath towels/sheets; pottery mugs and a teapot (each given by friends who were sisters, so the pieces matched); some ethnic serving pieces; Company's Coming cookbooks (my favorite series); an outdoor urn planter - got lots of neat stuff.
The gift from you needs to be for the couple, not a personal gift just for her. That would be something you would do personally and privately.

She's probably registered at different stores, pick something from the list. I always gave books when I was younger. A nice cookbook, or a book on sex. Her mother and mother in law know she will be having sex, that's how she and her fiance got here. How about a gift certificate to a day spa so she can relax before the wedding?
