I am throwing a co-ed bridal party with a classic and elegant 1950’s theme. How should I decorate?

Entertaining.

We do not want sock-hop. We want it to be glamorous and simple. Think afternoon/everning garden Hollywood party. Are there any suggestions for decorations?

Flowers, crystal, if you want to go elegant, then there’s no typically 50’s decorations that I can think of. I think the food and music will help accomplish that.
I think martinis were popular in the 50’s, maybe serve drinks in martini glasses. Play a best of the 50’s cd, and have female guests style their hair up, and wear cocktail dresses . If you have a extended bar type counter in your kitchen, have someone bartend for you, an ice bucket and different types of glasses on the bar for use, and effect.
Here’s a tip for a very nice drink, and you don’t have to use alcohol unless you want to:
I recently tried a cranberry martini in a restaurant. The rim of the glass had been swiped with an orange slice, and then dipped in sugar. This could be used on straight cranberry juice, plain Sprite, or anything else.
Of course, classic twist, poodle skirts
Or, for real elegance, try a big band theme
Glamorous AND simple are kinda hard to fulfill for the theme you want……….but you could have martini’s and everyone dress like their favorite old movie stars. Long faux cigarette holders, faux fur boas, guys in tuxes or really nice suits. All the popular 50’s music in rotation. Find out what popular appetizers were in the 50’s and serve those. That’s all I can think of. Hope it helps.
