How Big is too Big when it comes to your Bridal Party?
star_a05 asked:
What is the size of your bridal party? What is the biggest bridal party you have ever seen before? The reason I ask is both me and my friend are planning weddings I plan on having 4 on each side plus 1 flower girl and 1 ring bearer..She on the other hand is planning on have 14 on each side with 3 flower girls and 3 ring beares…Does anyone else thing that is a bit ridiculous?

Good grief, 14!!! I agree with you, that is not a wedding but a circus. It will take forever to get them all in the church.
I had two on each side…
yea thats a little much
UM…. yeah that is a bit over kill. Does she feel bad excluding people from the wedding party? Im sure if you have a large group of friends then it must be difficult to chose. Either way, as long as everyone you are friends with is invited to the wedding, no one should start throwing a hissy fit if they are not a bridesmaid. Doing that is really expensive as well. On average, I have gone to a lot of weddings, the most I have seen is 5 on each side. four is a good number.
4 on each side is fine. not big at all. We’re having 4 as well. 14 is WAY too much and to be honest, a waste. The most I’ve seen is 8 and that was too much as well.
Jeezey Creezey! 14! Is anyone left to be a guest?
Not to mention, what do you need 3 ring bearers for? There are only two rings!
i think it’s way too much…
but i also really believe that a wedding is the one time in a girl’s life that she should be able to do exactly what she wants.
so offer constructive criticism, but be supportive of whatever decision she makes.
Haha, I think your friend’s wedding does sound a bit ridiculous! She must just really want to get a lot of her friends and family involved as much as they can, to be a part of her special day. At the end of the day it’s up to you. I think it’s much better to have 4 like you, and a flower girl and ring bearer. I’m sure the people you’ve chosen are very close and special to you, perhaps your friend has just gone too over the top! I hope you have a wonderful wedding
that is supppper ridiculous. but hey its her wedding.
Biggest i have ever seen was 5 on each side, but i think 4 is pretty much the perfect number. 14 is just silly.
yes, and so will she when she finds out she needs to buy wedding party gifts!
Hi. I like the size of yours. Personally, I like 3-4 on each side.
14 on each side?? PLUS 3 flower girls and 3 ring bearers? Including the bride and groom, that totals 36 people!! That is not a wedding party, in my opinion, it’s a circus!!
As long as you can afford it, you could have 50 people. I will say this.. You will have people who will roll their eyes and make remarks about the size of the wedding party if you go big and 14 on each side is a little over the top for most people. But if you have a reason to have that many and it makes you and your fiance happy, then go for it.
The most I have seen is 6 on each side.
I’m a bridal consultant, and I think the largest bridal party I’ve ever seen was something like 15 bridesmaids, 15 groomsmen, 3 flower girls and 2 ringbearers. The processional also included grandparents and parents. I think it took something like 30 minutes just to get them all in the church, and I won’t even go into the nightmare it was for our store to coordinate all those looks. It took EVERYONE who works in our store working on this wedding.
I think having 4 is very reasonable. I would also point out to your friend that having that large of a bridal party means she’s got to buy that many thank you gifts for the attendants. Basically, the only weddings I’ve seen bridal parties that large are those where money literally is no object. Just fyi, I think the total bill for the wedding I mentioned cost just slightly less than $400,000.
edit: I forgot to say though, in the end, it’s HER wedding. If she wants to do it (and can afford it) then more power to her. Respect her enough to be supportive of her decisions, just as you expect her to do the same for you.
An old hair stylist of mine had 17 bridesmaids stand up in her first wedding and an additional 17 in her 2nd wedding. Another bride to be had 25 bridesmaids and thought nothing of it.
My wedding party was extremely small - 1 maid of honor, 1 best man, 1 flower girl and 1 junior bridesmaid. That was it!!!
Well my party was 5 and 5 plus a flower girl and a ring bearer. in people magazine last summer they had large wedding parties and in that book there was a bride with just 50 girls i think. they had a bridal party with 48 , 24 and more. 14 is not too bad my cousin is getting married next year and i am the matron of honor and she has 12 girls and 12 guys plus 6 kids
Having too many bridesmaids cheapens the honor. I had 200 guests and 4 on my side (which includes my maid of honor). I had 1 ring-bearer (little brother) and 2 flower girls (my little sister and my daughter).
I have 4 bridesmaids, 5 groomsmen, 2 flower girls and 1 ring bearer. I have seen 7 or 8 on each side. 14 it absurd!!! IT sounds like your friend is in need of extras attention. I think having that many others up there will actually distract from her and her fiancee.
damn 14?
i think having 5 is alot let alone freaking 14!!!????!!!!
dang..yeah 4 tops ii think…how do they all fit and if i was going
to that wedding i would think..dang this is taking forever! lets get this thing done!
I think anything more than 5 to 6 is getting into “too big” territory. One of my fiance’s cousins has 5 children and the oldest two girls have gotten married the past two years so to have just the siblings was large then add the siblings of their husbands and it was pretty big. But they didn’t want to cut their siblings out of the party so it was understandable that they had 8 attendants on each side plus ringbearer and flowergirl.
We are having moh/best man, 3 bridesmaids/groomsmen - 4 on each side - plus 3 flowergirls and 2 ringbearers. With the flowergirls & ringbearers we felt it was either an all or nothing. We didn’t feel right choosing 1 of our nieces and 1 of our nephews so we picked all the younger ones and asked the teens to do the readings.
its her wedding let her do what she wants
My FBIL and his wife had 9 attendants on each side, 2 flower girls and 2 ring bearers. His wife wanted her childhood friends along with her closest friends now. She put in some of her family as groomsmen to fill in to make up 9 on his side.
I think that anything above 4 is taking it a little bit far.
4 sounds just fine. 14 is a bit of an overkill. Why does she need 3 ring bearers and 3 flower girls? I had 2 on each side. I didn’t really have a MOH, because I couldn’t choose between the 2 who I really wanted. But, it worked out, because they shared the responsibilities.
Wow… 14?!?! Seriously??!?! That is huge!!!
I don’t know why but I always thought of 5 as being a perfect #. No reason behind it, just sounds good to me. I’m contemplating having six myself, but I think it might be too much since I’m having a small ceremony. The largest I’ve seen is 8.
i had a small wedding and the entire time i planned mine my friend was acting like its a competition. i had just a bmaid of honor {my sis} bestman {my father inlaw} two flower girls and a ring br. she wants twenty on each side. whatever i’ve been married for over 3 years now and shes still engaged haha. oh yeah we are no longer friends.
14 is ridiculously absurd! I am having 0 bridesmaids…. keeping it small and simple.
i have six on each side and two flower girls my two younger cousion 14 is alot
She’s going to have so much stress trying to manage all those people, she won’t even enjoy her own wedding. What a shame. We opted for no bridal party at all, and it was a delight-no BM dresses to worry about, nothing. Our moms signed our marriage license, and it was pretty worry-free.
I think she’s making a joke of her wedding, personally, and how special can the BM’s feel if they are one of 14? That’s just absurd, IMO.
Ours was 6 on each side, with one flowergirl, and that was plenty! Things do add up, the more people you have, like flowers and bridal party gifts, etc.
14 on each side? I can’t think of that many people that close to me. At the most I will be having 4 on each side. Why does she need 3 flower girls and 3 ring bearers? How will 34 bridal party members, the bride, the groom, and the preacher fit at the alter? much less how the the photographer fit that many people in pictures? Weddings are supposed to be intimate. Not a parade.
that is alot. I’m having 12 (6 bridesmaids and groomsman) plus the flower girl and ringbearer. So a total of 14 plus us. I think that was great. If I would put all my cousins in the bridal party i would have like 16 bridesmaids that was a hard choice for me but i was able to cut it down to 6 and 6.
I think that 8 is the max. Anything over that and I would be pretty upset as a bridesmaid that my friend couldn’t actually decide who was the closest to her and just asked everyone. Being a bridesmaid is expensive and I wouldn’t want to just be one of many that day.
14? Holy crap…that’s way over the top.
Last wedding I went to had 8 on each side and I though THAT was too much….took like 15 mins just for everyone to get to the altar before it was even bride’s turn…14! man….
The most I’ve seen is 6 on each side. I think 14 on each side is a bit much. It’s supposed to be special to be in the bridal party. It kind of looses it’s luster with that many people involved.
I had 1 flower girl, 1 ring bearer, 1 MOH, 1 bridesmaid, and 2 groomsmen. I liked having a smaller bridal party. I can’t imagine having 34 people to work with.
Wow, will your friend have any guests in the seats watching the ceremony or is everyone she knows in the bridal party? That is way too excessive and is a photographer’s nightmare as pictures are going to take so much longer with that many people!
My husband and I each had two attendants and a flower girl and ring bearer. I think the traditional thing is for the bride and groom to each have one attendant for every 50 guests. I was right on target since we had about 75 guests.
